Getting maximum performance out of any ski requires a snug-fitting, properly set-up ski boot. With the right fit, the slightest effort can trigger an immediate response from the ski. This month, the ski shop is featuring four top boots for different ability levels and an item that can help with fit and warmth.
Tecnica Attiva for Women Only
$399
www.tecnicausa.com
Women’s feet and legs are different from men, and that calls for different boots. The Attiva is specifically designed to meet the unique fitting needs of the fair sex. There are at least a half-dozen features to accommodate everything from a lower calf to a narrower heel. The Attiva comes in a stiffer 100 flex down to a 60 rating. Our choice is the Attiva V80 with Ultrafit, plenty of boot for most women.
Head Raptor 150 RD
$829

The Head Raptor 150 is the boot for a real aggressive racer who wants instant response. They don’t come much stiffer than this 150 flex, which is why Bode Miller runs slalom in it. It has all the fit adjustments needed for top performance.
Dalbello Proton P8
$379.95
www.dalbellosports.com
This 90 flex boot has the adjustment features of higher-priced models. Designed for advanced terrain, mostly on piste, the P8 is an easy-to-fit, high-performance boot, plenty of boot for most good skiers on groomed runs. There are stiffer Proton models for more aggressive skiers. The P8 is a great value at $379.95.
Lange Fluid 100
$399
www.langeskiboots.com
As the first plastic ski boot, Lange has a long reputation as a high-performance boot, especially popular with racers. The company still has a strong line in that category, but recreational and advanced skiers can get a lot of boot for the money in the Fluid 100. It has all the necessary features for top performance along with the ease of entry and comfort of a 100 flex model.
Superfeet insoles
$49.95
www.superfeet.com
Skiers have been using foot beds and insoles to improve boot performance for years, and Superfeet has been a top brand. Custom-fitted foot beds run around $150. Another option is new this year. The REDhot for men and the hotPINK for women insoles are gender-specific for improved control and have the added benefit of helping to keep the feet warm with special technology layers.
