Harris Hill Ski Jump gets big lift

by Staff Report/

A Brattleboro, Vt., ski jumping tradition will continue next month thanks to community support.

The Harris Hill Ski Jump, founded in 1922, was in major need of improvements. But with soaring construction costs for materials and unanticipated design changes, the jump was more than $300,000 in the hole.

Last ski season, the New York-based Manton Foundation came through with $130,000 in donations for the first phase of the construction project, but some $188,000 was still needed. That came through in November.

With funding in place, the southern Vermont community plans to hold the 85th Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition February 14-15. The competition attracts the best jumpers from America and Europe, along with lots of spectators.
