Mount Washington Resort donated $11,591 to the “Notch to Notch Trail Fund,” a new fund established for the purpose of building a continuous multi-purpose path linking Franconia Notch and Crawford Notch in New Hampshire. Mount Washington Resort’s donation is the seed capital for the Notch to Notch Trail project.

Pat Corso, president and CEO of Mount Washington Resort, presented a check in the amount of $11,591 to Herald Garneau. Owner of Garneau’s Garage in Twin Mountain, Garneau has been the snowmobile trails administrator for the Twin Mountain Snowmobile Club for 30 years and is the designated trail administrator for the Notch to Notch Trail project.

Also involved in the project, which has taken nearly four years to bring to this stage, are Sean Doll, director of activities and events for Mount Washington Resort and president of the Twin Mountain Chamber of Commerce, Molly Fuller, chief of the Pemigewasset District Ranger Station for the US Forest Service, and Jim Covey, vice president of the Twin Mountain Chamber of Commerce and owner of The Profile Deluxe Motel in Twin Mountain.

“We are excited about the opportunity to get started on the first leg of what could be one of the finest bike paths in New England," Corso said. "We look forward to continuing to expand activities that visitors can choose from in order to experience New Hampshire’s White Mountains.”

Mount Washington Resort also is donating heavy machinery and manpower to the Notch to Notch Trail project. The first leg of the project is approximately 8½ miles and will connect the Franconia Notch Bike Path to Twin Mountain.

The $11,591 was raised through Mount Washington Resort’s summer day visitor parking program, which was implemented in order to regulate the flow of traffic that had increased in the past few years. Daytime visitors to the resort are welcome. And, only during the peak summer and fall months, those who do not have lodging, dining or activity reservations, such as for golf or The Spa, are asked to pay a parking fee of $10 per car at The Sentinel, the gatehouse located on the driveway to The Mount Washington Hotel. Visitors may then park and utilize the resort shuttle service for transportation around the resort. The program was set up so that a portion of the parking fee was earmarked for funding the Notch to Notch Trail project, and this program will continue during the coming summer.
