Around the Region: 'Tis the season for Grand Prix and green beer

The top snowboarders around are back in Vermont for the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix finals at Killington. Look for riders such as Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter and Louie Vito in the competition March 14-15 at Bear Mountain.
Aloha! Pats Peak will be celebrating its 18th annual Hawaiian Weekend Celebration, March 14-15. Considered one of the best parties in the state, Hawaiian Weekend is a blow-out of spring skiing/riding, tropical decorations, helicopter rides, NASTAR races, hot tubs, Rail Jam and Hawaiian foods.
Boston TV news veteran Jack Williams hods his Jack Williams Race for Wednesday's Child on March 14 at Waterville Valley. Corporate and family teams of skiers and snowboarders race to raise funds for special needs adoption.
Snowboard Nation will also descend upon Waterville for the Burton Snowboards Super Demo Tour March 13-15 with demos and contests.
On March 14 Gunstock Adaptive will hold the "Party on the Snow" at the New Hampshire mountain. This event is provided to raise money for the adaptive program at Gunstock with races, music and tasty foot.
This is a sign of spring. Cannon's Crash Dummy Race is March 14. No, you can't ride, but the dummy can.
At Loon, the Kostick Cup and Shop Showdown March 14-15 are designed for action. The Cup is a Loon White Mountain Adaptive School fund-raiser race, while the Shop is a park event with talent from ski and snowboard shops around New England.
Mount Sunapee has its Corporate Challenge March 14 to support New England Handicapped Sports.
Northern Vermont’s Jay Peak is hosting a freestyle weekend. Saturday is slopestyle and Sunday is big air. Looking ahead, the IFSA Extreme Competition, where skiers and riders show off their stuff in the trees and chutes, is set for March 21-22.
St. Patrick's Day is coming up, and that means $17 lift tickets at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire's Black Mountain and Mad River Glen (wear green), two-for-one tickets at Ragged Mountain, and a Shamrock Scavenger Hunt at Okemo. It's Ladies Day there, too, with $39 tickets for the lasses. Look for the shamrocks at Mount Sunapee as well. Wachusett is taking St. Patty’s Day a step further by calling it Green Day. Wear green and get a half-price lift ticket. Be green by driving a hybrid vehicle to Wachusett and get a half-price lift ticket. Lastly, be green by carpooling (minimum four people) and get half off a pass.
During the month of March, college students (with valid ID) pay $39 for a Sugarloaf ticket midweek. The Sugarloaf Outdoor Center Inferno is March 15. That's a cross country ski race that goes from the top of the Whiffletree Quad to the Outdoor Center.
Go to Killington’s website (www.killington.com) for a chance at snagging some deals. They’ve got limited $100 two-day tickets for March 21-22 and a $50 two-day ticket for April 18-19.
In the Berkshires, Jiminy Peak has added additional e-coupon dates (www.jiminypeak.com) for savings. On March 28 and 29, get a $10 lift ticket if you bring your valid 2008-09 season pass from another ski area.
Gunstock has its 2009-10 season passes on sale with an unlimited adult pass for $329 before May 3.
