Clark starts strong at X Games

Several New England athletes turned in strong performances at Winter X Games 14 in Aspen, Colo., on Thursday.

In the women’s Snowboard SuperPipe elimination round, Kelly Clark (Mount Snow, Vt.) turned in the top score after two runs. Close behind was fellow Olympian Hannah Teter (Belmont, Vt.) in fourth place, while 18-year-old Darien, Conn., high-schooler Ellery Hollingsworth was in fifth.

The top six scorers advanced to the finals on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Lizzy Beerman of Weston, Vt., finished 11th.

In the men’s Snowboard SuperPipe elimination round Stratton Mountain School graduate and 2010 Olympic team member Louie Vito placed seventh to earn a spot in the top eight and a chance to compete in the finals tonight (Jan. 29) at 7:30 p.m.

Scotty Lago of Seabrook, N.H., also a U.S. Olympic team member, finished 13th while Elijah Teter of Belmont, Vt., was 15th.
