Massachusetts native Tyler Jewell (Sudbury) was ousted in the first round of Olympic men’s snowboarding parallel giant slalom by eventual gold medal winner Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada on Saturday.

Jewell qualified in seventh, making Anderson a tough-luck draw.

"Jasey's a stud, what can I say?" Jewell said. "He got me by seven tenths or something (in the first run). Second run, I knew what I had to do, and I did it. I caught him, and then I had to go for it a little bit more and took too tight a line on that pitch and just chattered out a little bit."

"I'm a lucky guy. I've got my family here, that's all I can ask for. I snowboard for a living right now. I don't make a lot of money, but I sure love it."

Jewell was credited with a 13th-place finish.

Anderson beat Austria’s Benjamin Karl for the gold medal, with France’s Mathieu Bozzetto claiming the bronze.

American Chris Klug (Aspen, Colo.) missed a gate as he pursued Bozzetto in the quarterfinals.
