Blue Hills instructors reach Level 1 certification

by PR Wire Report/

Blue Hills Ski Area has announced that 18 of its ski instructors earned the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Level 1 Certification. This certification enriches the quality of ski instruction offered at Blue Hills.

To qualify for the Level 1 PSIA exam, instructors must complete the Blue Hills Instructor Training course (ITC) by logging over 30 hours of in-house training followed by over 50 hours of teaching experience and a recommendation from the area’s ski school director. The exam process is a two-day, intense, on-mountain exam in which instructors are graded on their skiing ability, teaching approach and technical knowledge.

“A common misconception is that skiers must drive over three hours north to learn to ski from ‘the pros,’ Blue Hills Ski School director Lettie Trespasz said. “The reality is that our teaching staff is on par with any ski area in New England, or nationally for that matter. The PSIA certification confirms this. Blue Hills is an untapped resource by Bostonresidents and people can learn to ski here much easier and more cost-effectively than traveling.”

Blue Hills is officially located within Boston city limits, on the Milton/Canton line. The area offers two magic carpets and one chair lift servicing six ski trails. Blue Hills is well known for its children’s programs and teaches over 3,000 lessons annually. The current teaching staff consists of 120 instructors (27 Level 1 PSIA, four Level II PSIA, and three Level III PSIA).
