Freeman can't finish 50K XC race

Kris Freeman (Andover, N.H.) was unable to finish Sunday’s men’s cross country 50K mass start classic.

Norway's Petter Northug won his second gold medal in the event, followed by Germany’s Axel Teichmann (silver) and Sweden’s Johan Olsson (bronze).

"It's been an exhausting two weeks," Freeman said. "I have no real answers for why my first race went so bad or why this race went so bad.

"I was skiing relaxed, but you can just tell when something is off."

Dartmouth College graduate Ben Koons placed 46^th overall, skiing for New Zealand.
