Dartmouth 5th in NCAA championships

The Dartmouth College ski team placed fifth in the NCAA ski championships, which concluded on Saturday.
Denver won the NCAA title with a score of 785.5 points, followed by Colorado (714) and New Mexico (677).
Dartmouth was the top New England team, scoring 523 points. The Big Green was closely followed by Vermont (516.5).
Other New England teams competing in the NCAA championships included UNH (ninth, 303), Middlebury (10th, 270.5), Williams (12th, 176), Colby (13th, 172.5), Bates (16th, 98), Wellesley (20th, 25) and St. Michael's (21st, 19).
Among the top individual accomplishments for New England skies, four competitors earned first team All-America status in two events.
Two-event first team All-Americans included Vermont’s Franz Bernstein (men’s cross country 10K classical and 20 K freestyle), Dartmouth’s Rosie Brennan (women’s cross country 5K classic and 15K freestyle), Vermont’s David Donaldson (men’s giant slalom and slalom) and Dartmouth’s Ace Tarberry (men’s giant slalom and slalom). Bernstein was the overall winner in the 20K freestyle event.
To be a first team All-American, competitors must place in the top five in their events. Competitors who finish sixth to 10th earn second team All-America honors.
Middlebury’s Bryan Schpall (men’s giant slalom) was also a first team All-American.
New England athletes who earned second team All-America honors included Vermont’s Chris Colpitts (men’s giant slalom), New Hampshire’s Veronique-Archambault-Leger (women’s slalom), Vermont’s Caitlin Patterson (women’s cross country 5K classic), Middlebury’s Bobby Poehling (men’s slalom), Colby’s Vince Lebrun-Fortin (men’s slalom), Colby’s Josh Kernan (men’s slalom), Bates’ Ben Manter (men’s slalom), New Hampshire’s Dylan McGuffin (men’s cross country 10K classic), Dartmouth’s Courtney Hammond (women’s giant slalom), Vermont’s Meg Ryley (women’s giant slalom) and Middlebury’s Patrick Johnson (men’s cross country 20K freestyle).
