Andy Newell (Shaftsbury, Vt.) finished fourth in the final FIS Sprint Cup cross country standings, the best finish ever by an American.
Newell had the previous best U.S. mark with a sixth-place finish in 2007.
Newell also finished 19th in the final World Cup standings, the best U.S. ranking since 1983 (Bill Koch).
Newell finished the season with seven top-10 finishes and was in the top-30 on 11 occasions.
