Newell wins men's 10K XC race

Andy Newell (Shaftsbury, Vt.) was the men’s 10K cross country winner at the U.S. Super Tour Finals in Fort Kent, Maine, on Friday.
Newell edged out Lars Flora (Bend, Ore.) by 0.60 seconds to take the win. Newell’s fellow U.S. Ski Team and 2010 Olympic teammate, Torin Koos (Leavenworth, Wash/) closed out the podium, crossing the line in third.
Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska) was the women’s winner, followed by Dartmouth College’s Ida Sargent (Orleans, Vt.) and Rebecca Dussault (Gunnison, Colo.).
On Saturday, Newell placed second in the men’s sprint, placing behind Koos. Former Middlebury College standout Simi Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) finished third.
Randall again won the women’s race, followed by Sargent and Holly Brooks (Anchorage, Alaska).
