Ski Areas: Rhode Island
Rhode Island
Yawgoo Valley
skijournal.com mountain overview:
Anyone who has spent time near the ocean knows how salt air can eat away snow. Picture a ski area just eight miles from the Atlantic and only 70 feet above sea level. That's Yawgoo Valley, the only ski area in New England's smallest state. The team at Yawgoo answers the challenge by cranking up the snowguns whenever conditions permit, and the resort manages to stretch most seasons to 100 days. Naturally, an area this size focuses on teaching, and 1,900 kids annually sign up for a five-week learn-to-ski program. The learning goes on night and day for kids and adults, and its been working since 1964.
