Earlier in the summer, we published a story about which New Hampshire 4,000-footers were a good place to start out on your peak-bagging journey. Hopefully you had a chance to get to at least a couple of them and get a feel of what hiking in the White Mountains is like.
With Labor Day now in the rearview mirror, it won’t be long now before the leaves start bringing out their fall colors – and some already have. It is just one more sign that winter is approaching and will be here before you know it.
One thing to remember is that sunset is getting earlier each day. Those long hikes in the mountains or through the woods are being done with less available light. Bringing a headlamp is even more important, and is part of the 10 essentials someone should have for every hike.
Here is a list of more difficult hikes to get you closer to completing the 4,000-footers while you wait for ski season to start.
