
A handful of athletes with New England ties will compete at the Winter Youth Olympic Games beginning Friday in Gangwon, Korea. This marks the fourth edition of the event which will utilize many of the same facilities constructed for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games in 2018.
Team USA’s delegation will include 101 athletes ranging in age from 13 to 18. Team USA will compete in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, freeski, freestyle dual moguls, snowboarding, ski jumping, nordic combined, ice hockey, biathlon, bobsled, skeleton, curling, luge, and speedskating over 13 total days of competition.
Hailing from 26 states, over half of the country is represented with many athletes representing the U.S.’s coldest states.
Burke Mountain Academy student Annika Hunt, 15, and Mount Mansfield Academy senior Christina Winchell, 17, were named members of the Alpine ski team headed to Asia. On the snowboarding side were Carabassett Valley student Boden Gerry, 17, and Gould Academy’s Mason Hamel, 18.
