Shortly after noon Sunday, a chair on the Flying Bear Express quad at Attitash Mountain in Bartlett, N.H., detached from the line and fell to the ground.
Attitash said one individual was transported to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital in North Conway. A report from the “Carroll County, NH Scanner Alerts” Facebook page said the person was a 49-year-old male suffering from a lower back injury.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Passenger Tramway Safety Board announced Sunday that a joint investigation is underway after the incident.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears a mechanical failure caused one of the chairs to dislodge from the cable,” the agencies said in a statement. “The manufacturer of the lift has been contacted and is responding to the scene to assist with the investigation.”
