Sometimes, it can be easy to forget about a place’s rich history. Even in a place like Lake Placid.
“With the World University games coming, we’re turning Main Street into a pedestrian walkway,” Lauren Garfield, sales and marketing manager at Whiteface Mountain, said. “We were just talking about all the different former, current, and potentially-future Olympians who will be there. And we were all talking like, it’s no big deal. Then we stopped and thought about it and realized how fortunate we are that we just rub shoulders with Olympians, World Cup-caliber athletes, on a day-to-day basis. It’s kind of our normal. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have that history and that.”
Garfield, along with Steve Vance, director of sales at the Grand Adirondack Hotel in Lake Placid, N.Y., joined hosts Eric Wilbur and Mike Specian on the latest New England Ski Journal Basecamp podcast, which focuses on the magic of a ski town that may not be based in New England, but is every bit as charming and welcoming.
