Burke, Tenney to join Indy Pass for 2025-26 season; passes on sale for general public

Tenney Mountain in Plymouth, N.H., and Burke Mountain in East Burke, Vt., will be two of the six new resorts added to the Indy Pass for the 2025-26 season.

The announcement came Saturday as passes went on sale to the general public.

“It’s going to bring a lot of skiers who had never skied the mountain before,” Tenney owner Steve Kelly said recently on the Basecamp podcast.

Kelly is in his second season of owning Tenney and said that the mountain was close to joining for this season, but things didn’t pan out in time. He is excited about the opportunity to bring more people out to the mountain and see its revitalization firsthand.

Tenney has been a member of the two-year old Uphill New England pass since its inception.

Kelly and his crew have made progress by upgrading the snowmaking system, clearing trails and expanding the lodge, but have also run into roadblocks along the way, recently having to shut down the 60-year old Hornet Double, which was the lone chairlift to the summit.

The gearbox needs to be replaced, according to Kelly, and he said they hope to have the chair back online for the final stretch of the season. Until that happens, lift tickets have been reduced to $50.

Tenney has about 50 trails and glades, including about 40 acres of new or thinned out glades this year, and about 1,300 vertical feet.

Burke, which has 53 trails and glades with 2,011 vertical feet, has offered discounts to pass holders before as an allied resort, but this will mark the first time it will offer two days for those with the pass.

Michael Goldberg, who has been the federal receiver for the mountain since 2016 following the arrest of Jay Peak and Burke owner Ariel Quiros and manager Bill Stenger for defrauding foreign investors trying to become Green Card holders through the EB-5 visa program, said in a Feb. 24 story from the North Star Monthly that a viable buyer has been found and he would have a “significant update” on the potential sale of Burke Mountain in the next 60 days.

Jay Peak joined Indy Pass for the 2020-21 season while under receivership and was purchased at auction by current owners Pacific Group Resorts in 2022.

Since going into receivership, the lift system at Burke has struggled. The Willoughby Quad was removed from service before the start of the 2017-18 season, according to the New England Ski History’s lift database. The terminals and lift towers are all that remain.

The Mid-Burke Express is the only access to the summit since Willoughby has been decommissioned, and the Sherburne Express, which handles the lower third of the mountain, has had significant mechanical issues recently.

The T-bar was added for 2017-18, but the funding for that largely came from Burke Mountain Academy and grant money and students are given priority access to the lift.

Indy Pass is on sale to the general public until the allotment runs out. In addition to Burke and Tenney, Indy Pass also added Rauriser-Hochalmbahnen in Austria, Pila in Italy, Mount Washington XC in British Columbia, Canada and its first South America resort, Corralco Mountain in Chile, for use in Summer 2025.

If there are less than 250 resorts available by Dec. 1, there will be a 10-day window for passholders to request a refund.
