Former Killington social media star Brian Hughes headed to Middlebury Snow Bowl

Brian Hughes has a new home. 

In an interview with Vermont podcaster Victoria Gaither, the former Killington Mountain Resort snowmaker/groomer, who created a popular social media presence with his enlightening morning condition reports, announced Monday that he is headed to Middlebury Snow Bowl beginning next season. 

Hughes said that he will continue to do the morning reports that made him something of a local celebrity at Killington. 

“Those aren’t going to stop, just going to be at a different locale,” Hughes said. “The stoke just translates from mountain to mountain. When I’m talking about the stoke I’m talking about every ski area across here, down to there, down to Pennsylvania, even in California, Colorado, and worldwide…the stoke is always the same.” 

In a separate interview with Gaither last week, Hughes said that he was leaving his post at Killington after nearly 30 years in order to downsize. The move delivers him from the self-proclaimed “Beast of the East” to a much-quieter independent ski area. 

“I am stoked about this decision,” Hughes said. “It’s a cool place, and I feel at home on this mountain.”
