They might look the same as they ever have in the lift line, but the subtle evolution of ski helmets continues in earnest, with safety and comfort remaining at the forefront of manufacturers’ tweaks in 2024-25.
Integrated with advanced impact systems such as Mips, Koroyd and proprietary multi-density foams that address both linear and rotational forces, this season’s new helmets also are enhancing comfort with improved ventilation, customizable BOA fit systems and ultra-lightweight materials. Seamless goggle integration and visor innovations continue to evolve, appealing not only as an over-the-glasses option for prescription glasses wearers, but also to skiers who simply prefer the ease and function of one-piece helmet-goggle systems.
Read on for a look at some of the top helmets that are reshaping the standards for head protection this season.
Smith Nexus
Smith elevates its all-mountain Nexus helmet for 2024-25 with a focus on both safety and performance. An integrated Koroyd 2.0 impact system boosts energy absorption while reducing weight. The hybrid shell construction combines durable ABS at the crown with in-mold polycarbonate along the sides for a sleeker, more aerodynamic design. The Mips system reduces rotational forces during impacts. A BOA 360 Fit System adapts to the entire head, while the updated AirEvac ventilation includes 24 adjustable vents for better climate control. The helmet also now features a magnetic Fidlock buckle for one-handed operation.
