It did not take long into the new year for Ski Butternut to let it be known that it will be busy during the offseason.
On Jan. 3, the Great Barrington, Mass., mountain announced it would be replacing the Overbrook Triple with Jane’s Quad, which will be 3,633 feet long and climb 757 feet. SkyTrac will be the manufacturer.
The lift pays homage to Jane Murdock, who opened Butternut Basin in December 1963 with her husband, Channing. She passed away in November 2023 at the age of 88.
The new top terminal will be located above the existing Overbrook terminal and will eliminate the uphill section of Uptown, improving access to the Uptown, Freewheeler and Downspout trails on the far right (west) side of the mountain when looking up from the base lodge.
