With temperatures in the 60s, it might have felt more like a time for last laps than starting the season Thursday. Sunday River celebrated Halloween by spinning the Locke Mountain Triple for passholders who dressed up in costume.
It wasn’t the official start of the season, but it was a chance to take advantage of the cold temperatures from earlier in the week and dust off the skis for another year. Snowmakers fired up the equipment on Locke Mountain and Jordan Bowl in preparation for the start of the 2024-25 season on Oct. 27.
“It was great to see the Sunday River community back on the mountain in costumes and in high spirits,” said Sunday River general manager Brian Heon. “This is why we love what we do.”
For those with ticket packs, New England Pass, Ikon Pass and the newly included Mountain Collective, and a willingness to get somewhat creative with a costume, it meant early-season conditions on T2 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Downloading was required from the mid-station.
