Wachusett opened for the 2023-24 winter season on Friday, becoming the second ski area in Massachusetts to run its lifts.
That’s because a ski area located in a town more noted for being home of the late Spag’s beat it — and everybody else.
On Oct. 22, Ski Ward, a small ski area in Shrewsbury, Mass., made headlines as the “first ski area in North America to open for the 2023-24 season” thanks to its new snowmaking system, which can make snow when outdoor temperatures are below 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
The base was about 100 feet long, served by a carpet lift. Tickets were only $5 as part of a fall festival that also included a petting zoo.
