Howard Buxton, John Egan, Tim and Dianne Mueller, and Suzi Rueck became the latest inductees into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame during a reception held last month at Killington Mountain Resort,
Buxton served as the chief of competition for biathlon at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics and went on to be involved in five more Olympic Winter Games until Nagano in 1998. The Muellers played instrumental roles in the development and success of Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow. Rueck was instrumental in the development of snowboarding education and instruction.
As for Egan, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Famer is one of the most recognizable names in extreme skiing. The native of Milton, Mass. showcased his skills in 17 Warren Miller movies between 1979 and 2020. Most recently, in addition to his nod in Vermont, he was a guest on the New England Ski Journal Basecamp podcast, presented by County Ski and Sport. Egan joined hosts Eric Wilbur and Mike Specian to discuss his latest honor, his passion for skiing in Vermont, and what it takes to find a mental edge on the mountain.
