Hotel Chateau-Bromont is the place to be for a trip to Quebec

The Hotel Chateau-Bromont can offer a great experience within a reasonable drive from New England.

From ski-in/ski-out condos to the seemingly endless number of auberges and B&Bs, there is no shortage of ways to put your head down at night in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.

(Although, the hardest way to do it is with points, as chain hotels are in short supply when the mountains turn into les montagnes.)

For a quick weekend getaway over the border — limiting time spent in the car once you arrive at the destination and not having to touch it again before heading back Sunday afternoon — the dog-friendly Hotel Chateau-Bromont, at the foot of Bromont Mountain, would be the first place to try, especially if it is a family vacation.

(A shuttle bus will take you over to the base of the Versant du Village lift and the beginner-friendly Mont Soleil, where 450 skiable acres and more than 140 trails await you.)

Bromont brands itself as a mountain of experiences, and for those who aren’t looking to ski — or might not be the first-to-last chair type (remember, last chair can be as late as 1 a.m.) — it gives them plenty of options as well with an indoor pool, four hot tubs on the terrace, a fitness room and walking trails available to all guests.

There is a thermal experience ($45 per person) that “consists of alternating hot and cold with periods of relaxation in between: eucalyptus-scented steam bath, Finnish sauna, whirlpool baths, temperate pool, Nordic waterfall, relaxation areas, fireplace and terrace.” Massages and body treatments are available through the onsite Amerispa (the largest banner of spas in Canada).

With so much night skiing available, a relaxing day followed by hitting the slopes under the lights isn’t out of the question.

There are 166 hotel rooms available at the Chateau-Bromont, Comfort rooms, featuring 1-2 queen beds, start at $199 Canadian dollars per night. Relaxation rooms (starting at $299) include balconies located at the spa pavilion. Suites with other added amenities run from $299-$419 per night.

Someone is bound to find a package that fits his or her group’s needs, whether it is simply a room, a traditional ski-and-stay package, or one that includes four hours at the thermal experience, a 50-minute massage and a four-course dinner at Les 4 Canards (The 4 Ducks), or one that includes breakfast and access to Parc des Sommets, which is located nearby and offers nearly 90 miles of multi-use trails for snowshoeing, fat biking or cross-country skiing.

The “Instant Skiing” package (from $174 per person) includes a night’s stay at the hotel, lift tickets to Bromont, access to the hot tubs, and a 10 percent discount rate on meals. The “Instant Gourmet Skiing” package ($269 per person) adds lunch and a four-course dinner.
