World-famous skier Kasha Rigby, a native of Stowe, Vermont, died while skiing due to injuries suffered in an avalanche on Tuesday. She was 54.
Rigby was one of the world’s foremost telemark skiers and embraced extreme skiing at an early age.
She was caught in an avalanche at Brezovica Resort in Kosovo. Rigby dropped in near the top of the mountain, triggering an avalanche that measured 25 meters by 10 meters, according to a spokesman. A skiing partner reached her quickly and performed CPR, but Rigby’s injuries were too severe.
While Rigby’s beginnings were in New England, she ultimately skied all over the world, both individually and as a member of Team North Face, where her love for extreme skiing shined.
