Listen carefully, New England: Time to up your game.
I’ve just finished a remarkable ski weekend in Michigan, and there are lessons for New England ski areas and ski towns.
Skiing in Michigan, you ask? Flat Michigan? Home of Detroit city? Staging ground for Motown music? Midwestern to the core? And Michigan has lessons for us?
Well, I was surprised, too. My notion of a ski area is Killington, or Jay Peak, or Cannon Mountain, or Waterville Valley. My notion of a ski town is Stowe, or North Conway, or even Bethel. My notion of ski snow is, well, ice. Groomed ice — but ice.
